Black Chapel : Serpentine Pavilion
The 2022 Serpentine Pavilion designed by Chicago based artist Theaster Gates titled the Black Chapel is inspired by traditional structures around the world referencing beehive kilns, traditional tempiettos and mud hut tombs featuring a circular design, an open skylight and tall doorways with inner bench style seating to contemplate the tranquillity of the sanctuary space...placed alongside the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens the surrounding landscape acts as a grounding exterior and welcome place into this temporary build!
