The Seagram Murals : Mark Rothko
Tate Britain in Pimlico, London exhibits the Seagram Murals by American artist Mark Rothko after he gifted the collection in 1969 as a series to be viewed together in one room as an immersive experience for the viewer, originally painted as a commission in 1958 for the Four Seasons restaurant in New York City's Seagram building his ambition for the works grew and he cancelled the contract believing that they were no longer an appropriate location for his paintings...expressing basic human emotions of doom, ecstasy and tragedy the large scale pieces of darkly luminous sombre tones and palette of reds, browns and blacks envelope you into an otherworldly meditative dimension!
